Andy Murray Emma Raducanus Wimbledon Mixed Doubles Withdrawal Due To Stiffness

Andy Murray: Emma Raducanu's Wimbledon mixed doubles withdrawal due to 'stiffness'

Pair were due to play together for the first time

Raducanu says she is 'disappointed' to withdraw

Emma Raducanu has withdrawn from the Wimbledon mixed doubles on Saturday due to stiffness in her wrist. The withdrawal ensures partner Andy Murray will not play at Wimbledon this year.

Murray and Raducanu had been scheduled to play their first match together on Saturday, but the 2021 US Open winner said she was withdrawing "as a precaution" after experiencing some discomfort in her wrist during practice.

"I am very disappointed to have to withdraw from the mixed doubles at Wimbledon," said Raducanu. "I have been really looking forward to playing with Andy and I'm so sorry to let him down and our fans down."

Murray said he was "gutted" for Raducanu, but understood her decision.

"It's a shame that Emma has had to withdraw, but I understand her decision," said Murray. "She's a great player and I'm sure she'll be back stronger next year."

Raducanu's withdrawal means Murray will not play at Wimbledon this year. The three-time Grand Slam winner had been hoping to make a return to the tournament after missing last year's event due to injury.

It is a disappointing end to what has been a difficult year for Murray. The Scot has struggled with injuries and has not played a competitive match since March.

However, Murray remains determined to return to the top of the game. He is currently ranked No. 52 in the world and is hoping to make a strong showing at the US Open in August.
