Tim Davie Hopes To Make Progress To Recover 200k From Huw Edwards

BBC Boss: 'I'll claw back £200k from Huw Edwards'

Director-General Tim Davie vows to recoup the cash paid to the shamed star

Beeb chief says he is 'determined' to get the money back

BBC Director-General Tim Davie has vowed to "make progress" in recovering the £200,000 paid to shamed star Huw Edwards.

Edwards was suspended from his role as the BBC's News at Ten anchor in April after it was revealed he had sent inappropriate messages to a female colleague.

He was later cleared of any wrongdoing by an internal investigation, but the BBC has said it will not be renewing his contract when it expires in 2023.

Davie told MPs on the Digital, Culture, Media and Sport Committee that he was "determined" to get the money back from Edwards.

"I'm not going to comment on individual cases, but I can say that we are determined to recover any money that is owed to the BBC," he said.

"We have a process in place for doing that, and we will be following that process in this case."

The BBC has come under fire for its handling of the Edwards case, with some critics accusing it of being too lenient.

However, Davie defended the BBC's decision to clear Edwards of any wrongdoing.

"The investigation found that there was no evidence of any misconduct on Huw Edwards' part," he said.

"We have to respect the findings of that investigation."

Davie also said that the BBC was committed to stamping out sexual harassment and inappropriate behaviour in the workplace.

"We have a zero-tolerance policy on sexual harassment and inappropriate behaviour," he said.

"We are committed to creating a safe and respectful working environment for all of our employees."
