Peggy Flanagan: A Native American Woman Running for Governor

Daughter of Land Rights Activist Could Make History

Peggy Flanagan, the daughter of American Indian land rights and sovereignty activist Marvin Manypenny Flanagan, is running for governor of Minnesota. If elected, she would be the first Native American woman governor in the country.

A Single Mother's Journey

Flanagan was raised by a single mother, a phlebotomist in St. Louis Park, Minnesota. She was first elected to her current post as Lieutenant Governor in 2018. Flanagan brings her experiences of building coalitions and working with diverse communities to her campaign for governor.
